Main duties of the job

The post holder will deliver brief, high-quality CBT interventions to children and young people in schools and colleges, conducting assessments, offering early interventions, and measuring outcomes to ensure effective, evidence-based practice. They will also support Whole School Approach activities, including workshops, groups, staff training, and consultation, while promoting early identification of mental health needs.

Working autonomously and in line with professional and Trust standards, the practitioner will plan and deliver care according to NICE guidelines, initiate referrals when needed, and provide clear information and psychoeducation to CYP and families.

The role includes contributing to MHST leadership, supporting team culture, multidisciplinary working, audits, governance, and sharing clinical knowledge. Administrative duties involve maintaining clinical records, managing caseloads, supporting agile working, and collecting MHST data. Strong communication skills are required to build relationships with schools, internal teams, agencies, and families.

The practitioner will engage in ongoing professional development, complete mandatory training, participate in appraisal, maintain clinical competencies, support new staff, contribute to training, and assist in implementing new policies and initiatives.

Main duties of the job

• Provide clinical and operational leadership for the day-to-day functioning of the Havering Neurodevelopmental Pathway.

You will hold a relevant postgraduate qualification (Master's level or equivalent) in a mental health or psychological discipline and current registration with an appropriate professional body.

You will have substantial post-qualification experience working with children and young people with moderate to severe and/or complex presentations within CAMHS or an equivalent CYP mental health setting, alongside demonstrable experience or specialist competence in neurodevelopmental assessment.

You will bring advanced skills in assessment and formulation, experience of clinical supervision and consultation, and the ability to influence MDT clinical decision-making while working constructively with uncertainty, professional difference and risk.

You will be able to combine strong clinical judgement with an understanding of pathway functioning, data quality, patient flow and service improvement, while working collaboratively across organisational and professional boundaries.

Havering CAMHS provides specialist assessment and intervention for children and young people aged 0-18 with moderate to severe mental health needs. We work as an integrated multidisciplinary team alongside primary care, education, social care, paediatrics and specialist mental health services.

The service operates Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm, from our main site in Romford, a short walk from the Elizabeth Line. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly across the local area and undertake community-based work, including home visits where clinically indicated.

Havering CAMHS is continuing to develop its clinical pathways and operating model within the Children's Directorate, with a focus on high-quality care, clear clinical decision-making, effective use of resources and collaborative working.

About NELFT’s SET CAMHS

NELFT’s SET CAMHS is for anybody aged between 0-18, living in the Southend, Essex and Thurrock areas and is free at the point of entry.

Structure of NELFT’s SET CAMHS

There are: a Children’s Single Point of Access (CSPA), seven Locality Teams, an Intensive Support Services and a specialist Eating Disorders Team. These are located across Southend, Essex and Thurrock.

What difficulties can be referred to the service?

• Mood and anxiety disorders
• Behavioural and conduct disorders
• Emerging personality and attachment disorders
• Eating disorders
• Psychotic disorders
• Deliberate self-harm and suicidal ideation
• Substance misuse with co-existing mental health needs (dual diagnosis)
• Autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) - with co-occurring mental health needs where the focus is on the treatment of mental health needs.

All referrals to the service are assessed and then we use the Thrive model to offer the support that is needed for the young person, developed in line with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidance criteria (NICE) and based on a best practice model of treatment.

Locality Teams in SET CAMHS:

The aim of our SET CAMHS is to respond earlier to children and young people’s needs in order to help prevent, reduce or delay the need for more specialist interventions. This transformation of children and young people’s mental health services has a clinical focus, integrated with local authorities to deliver a long term collaborative approach to planning and delivering services.

SET CAMHS focuses on the mental health and includes access to self-help tools and services based in schools and the community. We are creating a modern service that fits with children’s lives in a way that best suits them. Key new features include a Children’s Single Point of Access (CSPA) into the service, clear early signposting, and use of digital channels. We are working collaboratively with HCRG (formerly Virgin care) when offering the 'Getting Help' aspect of the Thrive Model.

The service is driven by the principles underpinning the national CYP-IAPT programme (Children and Young People’s Improving Access to Psychological Therapies); evidence based interventions, routine measurement of outcomes, access to high quality training and supervision for professionals and true co-production with children and young people.

Clinicians have to ensure that a high quality, timely, accessible and evidence-based service is available to all children and young people who need it. This means establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with wider social, health and voluntary services.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an innovative and flexible Psychologist to join our Mental Health and Wellness Team psychology provision in the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham. The post holder will join a group of passionate psychologists who value diversity and inclusion. The team has a range of specialist interests, and experience in delivering a range of trauma specific therapies. We believe in the importance of richness in delivering secondary care services to effectively meet the needs of the population we serve, therefore integrated working with care co-ordinators from Barking and Dagenham Mental Health and Wellness Teams based at Barking Community Hospital is essential, and the post-holder will be required to work on site at least four days a week to facilitate this.

We work in tandem with the Community Psychology provision and view this as crucial in supporting the pathway and the people who need it to thrive. Trauma informed care is imperative not only for supporting people who use the services, but for the staff who work in them. We work closely with the Lead for Trauma Informed Care, and specialist trauma supervision has been set up for the pathway. The successful candidate will be joining the borough at an exciting time where they’ll have the opportunity to contribute to shaping meaningful services for those it is set up to serve.

Main duties of the job

Assessment and Treatment Planning

• Provide specialist psychological assessments based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of highly complex, sensitive information.

• Undertake risk assessment and risk management for relevant individual clients and provide both general and specialist advice for professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment and management.

• To formulate evidence based treatment plans, based on sound and current theoretical knowledge and good practice.
