Job summary
We're looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist to join our Mental Health Liaison and Crisis Resolution Home Treatment (CRHT) teams on the Isle of Wight.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting people experiencing acute mental health crises, helping them access timely assessment, treatment and support when they need it most. You will work as part of a compassionate and skilled multidisciplinary team that is committed to improving outcomes for service users and their families.
As a Clinical Psychologist, you will provide both clinical and professional leadership across the Mental Health Liaison and CRHT teams. You will support colleagues through supervision, mentoring, and day-to-day guidance, while maintaining a strong clinical presence and leading by example. Working alongside nursing, medical, and allied health professionals, you will contribute to service development, promote best practice and help ensure the highest standards of care for those accessing our services.
Main duties of the job
You will have experience of working with adults experiencing mental health crises and be confident working in partnership with families, carers, and partner agencies with a person-centred approach. Strong communication skills, clinical judgement and a commitment to supporting people through their recovery and transition back into the community is essential.
This role offers the opportunity to make a genuine difference, helping shape and develop crisis and liaison services across the Isle of Wight while supporting the professional growth of teams around you.
- To provide high quality specialist assessment, formulation, individual and group psychological therapy to patients of the Isle of Wight Community Mental Health Teams, working within professional guidelines and the organisational structure of the Service's policies and procedures.
- The characteristics of the core population include people with enduring mental health needs and complex emotional needs who may find it difficult to:
- Make or maintain relationships, connect with other people, including friends, family or work colleagues
- Manage and control their emotions
- Cope with life and difficult feelings
- Control their behaviours and impulses
- Duties will also include working with other people involved in individuals' care (eg family or named carers). A recovery-focused approach is essential.
About us
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides joined-up mental and physical healthcare for around two million people across our communities. With over 13,000 staff working in the community and local hospitals, we deliver care at every stage of life, helping people live their best and healthiest lives.
Our mental health services include community-based support and early intervention in psychosis (EIP) for both adults and young people, alongside a network of specialist inpatient wards covering forensic, learning disability, eating disorder and older person's care.
We deliver extensive physical health services too, from urgent community response teams helping frail and older patients remain safely at home, to hospitals at home teams providing acute-level care in familiar surroundings. Our neurological services offer rehabilitation and treatment for conditions including Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease, Motor Neurone Disease, Head Injury, Cerebral Palsy and Stroke. Across Hampshire, our community hospitals provide inpatient rehabilitation as a step down from acute care, and our dedicated teams also staff Treetops Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Portsmouth, offering expert, compassionate support.
Everything we do is underpinned by our CARE values of compassion, accountability, respect and excellence
