Job summary
Please Note: Due to the high volume of applications, we may close this vacancy early
Kingston Hospital is a busy, flourishing Foundation Trust with approximately 600 beds and a 22 bed private wing. A wide range of acute medical and surgical conditions are dealt with on an inpatient, outpatient and day case basis. Intensive care, coronary care and high dependency facilities are available. Further sub specialities include an active maxillo-facial unit and an eye unit.
The General Medical and Care of the Elderly (COE) Services operate from 180 beds including a 5 bedded cardiac step down unit and a 20 bedded stroke unit. In addition there is a 50 bed integrated Acute Assessment Unit (AAU). Specialty Departments within the Medicine include Elderly care, Respiratory Medicine, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Dermatology, Sexual Health, Rheumatology, and Diabetes/ Endocrinology
Main duties of the job
The successful post-holder will work on the Trauma and Orthopaedics (T&O) inpatient unit, which consists of 36 beds for unscheduled (emergency) admissions. Typically, up to 80% of these patients will be elderly and/or have multiple and complex co-morbidities. Kingston Hospital has a much higher proportion of very elderly patients within emergency admissions compared with the London (and England) average and the expansion of the Elderly Care department, including Orthogeriatrics, reflects the large number of elderly people being cared for in our hospital as a whole.
The Orthogeriatic Multi Disciplinary Team, comprising of nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, discharge co-ordinator, pharmacist, receptionists and housekeepers. You will have a very close working relationship with the Trauma and Orthopaedic team and the Trauma Anaesthetic consultants. There are daily Consultant ward reviews and daily multi-disciplinary meetings, which focus on a team-based approach to care and discharge planning.
Although here are no specific on call commitments attached to this post there is a requirement to participate in a 7-day working pattern with the team covering weekends on a 1:4 basis.
Excellent communication and team-work skills are essential, as is the awareness of the importance of our (secondary care) links with Community Services and Primary Care.

Chief Pharmacy Technician - ePMA & Digital Services
Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust View all jobs
Posted 1 month(s) ago
Reference: 2347659
Job summary
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Pharmacy Technician with a passion for digital healthcare, who is looking to take their next career step and join us as a Chief Technician, ePMA.
As part of our established Pharmacy Digital and Informatics Team, you'll help us maintain, develop and optimise the EPMA system, working with colleagues from across the Trust to improve prescribing and patient safety.
You'll work with a broad range of people along the way. Supporting colleagues individually and delivering training to larger groups, to contributing to multidisciplinary discussions, digital projects and system developments, you'll have the opportunity to build relationships across different professions and specialties.
We're looking for someone who can explain things clearly, find creative ways to make training engaging and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves when problems needs solving.
Healthcare is becoming increasingly digital, and this role gives you the opportunity to be at the forefront of that change. You'll expand your specialist skills inEPMA systems, while using your pharmacy knowledge to challenge existing ways of working and help us improve how medicines are prescribed and administered.
Unlike a lot of digital pharmacy technician roles, you'll still have the opportunity to retain your operational pharmacy skills in the dispensary, but the majority of your role will focus on our digital medicines systems and supporting the people who use them.
Main duties of the job
- To help maintain and optimise our Trust Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA) systems as an integral member of the Pharmacy Digital Team.
- Provide expert training and support to multidisciplinary staff using the Trust Oracle Cerner Millenium EPMA system.
- Working with multidisciplinary teams to design and implement system changes to promote safe prescribing in line with Trust clinical guidelines.
- Work in collaboration with the wider Trust Digital Teams on projects, system upgrades and configuration and regression testing.
- Design, build and implement prescribing protocols, order sets and clinical decision support tools in line with Trust guidelines.
- Contribute to medication safety initiatives through system design, audit and continuous quality improvement.
About us
Kingston & Richmond NHS Foundation Trust Pharmacy Department provides a high quality, professional pharmacy service and has a strong track record in delivery quality and innovative services. Both the Pharmacy Department and the Trust have a long-standing reputation for being a friendly, rewarding and compassionate place to work.
We work closely with colleagues across the wider multidisciplinary team, so you won't be tucked away behind a computer working on ePMA in isolation. You'll get to know people across different professions and specialties and become someone colleagues turn to when they need help navigating our digital systems.
As this is a role that sits between pharmacy, people and digital, there's a real opportunity to learn. You'll be surrounded by experienced pharmacy colleagues while also building relationships with teams across the Trust, giving you exposure to areas you might not ordinarily encounter in a traditional pharmacy technician role.
We want you to feel comfortable asking questions, sharing ideas and challenging the way we do things. If you spot something that could work better, we want to hear about it.
