Job Title: Lead Pharmacist - Wessex Clinical Research Delivery Centre (CRDC) Contract Type: Fixed Term Fixed Term Contract End Date: 36 Months After Starting Purpose for Fixed Term: Short Term FundingMain duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as the Lead Pharmacist for the Commercial Research Delivery Centre (CRDC), providing strategic and operational pharmacy leadership for one of the UK's most ambitious and innovative clinical research programmes.
About us
As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated 'Good' by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.
We support flexible working and will consider requests taking into account the needs of the service. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.
Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 30% lower than London and 17 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.
We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalising your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

Job description
Job responsibilities
The CRDC is transforming the delivery of commercial clinical research across the South East, creating opportunities for patients to access cutting-edge medicines and therapies while supporting the growth of the life sciences sector. As Lead Pharmacist, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe, effective and efficient delivery of investigational medicinal products across a diverse and expanding portfolio of commercial studies.
Working closely with clinical, research, operational and industry partners, you will lead the development of pharmacy services that enable high-quality research delivery while maintaining the highest standards of governance, regulatory compliance and patient safety. Your expertise will help shape the future of research pharmacy services, supporting the organisation's commitment to innovation, excellence and improved outcomes for patients.
You will provide professional leadership to research pharmacy teams involved in commercial research delivery, acting as the key pharmacy advisor for the CRDC and contributing to strategic planning across the organisation and wider region. The role requires strong collaboration with principal investigators, research nurses, clinical trial practitioners, research management teams, sponsors and external stakeholders to ensure studies are delivered successfully and to agreed timelines.
The post holder will be responsible for developing and implementing research pharmacy strategies, overseeing investigational medicinal product management, supporting regulatory inspections and audit activity, identifying opportunities for service improvement, and ensuring research pharmacy services remain responsive to the needs of a growing commercial portfolio.
Reporting to the UHS Chief Pharmacist (CRDC host organisation), with close working relationships across the Research and Development Directorate, Commercial Research Delivery Centre leadership team and wider pharmacy services, you will provide expert professional leadership and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver world-class research opportunities for patients.
This is a fixed-term opportunity with the potential to shape the future of research pharmacy services within the CRDC, with the post holder expected to help build the activity, partnerships and sustainability required to secure ongoing funding for the role.
This role offers an exceptional opportunity to influence research strategy, drive innovation in medicines development, and contribute to the continued success of a nationally significant research programme.
Responsibilities:
-
Provide strategic and operational leadership for pharmacy services within the Commercial Research Delivery Centre (CRDC), ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant management of investigational medicinal products across a diverse portfolio of commercial clinical trials.
-
Lead the development and continuous improvement of research pharmacy services, working with multidisciplinary teams, research leaders, study sponsors and external partners to maximise research opportunities and support the delivery of high-quality studies.
-
Act as the senior pharmacy professional for commercial research activity, providing expert advice on regulatory compliance, governance, risk management, quality assurance and medicines management in accordance with national legislation, Good Clinical Practice and sponsor requirements.
-
Support the growth and success of the CRDC by identifying opportunities for innovation, service expansion and operational efficiency, enabling more patients to access cutting-edge therapies and clinical research opportunities.
What experience/skills are needed:
-
You will be a registered pharmacist with substantial post-registration experience, including significant experience in clinical governance, clinical research, investigational medicinal products or specialist pharmacy services.
-
You will have a proven track record of leading and developing services, delivering complex programmes of work and influencing senior stakeholders across multidisciplinary teams.
-
You will possess an in-depth understanding of research governance, medicines legislation, Good Clinical Practice and the regulatory frameworks that support the delivery of commercial clinical trials.
-
You will demonstrate excellent leadership, communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with clinical teams, sponsors, researchers, industry partners and external organisations.
Additional Information:
-
The role may require travel across partner organisations and regional research sites, and applicants must be able to meet these travel requirements.

Job responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a very clinically-focused service, and advise doctors, nurses, and pharmacists in primary and secondary care how to treat their patients safely and well. We also operate a busy patient helpline, so you will have the satisfaction of regularly advising our Trusts patients about their medicines. The role provides an opportunity to provide strategic leadership within a service which is dedicated to ensuring that children and young people living in Sussex receive timely, integrated and high-quality care to meet their clinical needs. As the Consultant Practitioner Psychologist and Lead for Psychological Professions, you will ensure that young people and their families receive targeted assessments and effective psychological interventions.
As well as influencing the way in which care is delivered across the inpatient services, the role also offers the opportunity to work clinically with young people and their families, while providing clinical leadership within the enhanced seven-day Crisis and Home Treatment Service (COAST). This service offers an alternative to inpatient admission for children and young people (12-18 years) experiencing acute mental health difficulties and has been established for just over a year. You will work closely alongside colleagues from psychology, nursing, psychiatry, occupational therapy, family therapy, social work and mental health practitioner backgrounds to deliver truly integrated care.
Main duties of the job
Working clinically alongside the Leadership Team as part of the Sussex CAMHS COAST team, you will provide professional and clinical leadership across the service, leading the delivery of assessment, consultation and psychological interventions.
You will be joining a team which currently includes a Senior Practitioner Psychologist, a Principal Family and Systemic Therapist, and an Assistant Psychologist. A part of the Inpatient service expansion, there will be an additional Senior Psychological Practitioner role, a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist and an Assistant Psychologist in post. You will also provide supervision to the Principal Psychological Professional at the Lansdowne Children's Service.
This is a Band 8c, full-time post covering Sussex-wide. We would consider flexible working patterns and job sharing opportunities for the ideal candidate(s).
You will receive monthly supervision from the CAMHS PP Professional Lead for CAMHS and join monthly PP Leads meeting alongside the Consultant PP Leads across CAMHS. You will have opportunities to network with Psychological Professions colleagues across CAMHS, the wider SPFT NHS Trust, and join National Networks for professionals working in inpatient CAMHS.
About us
SPFT provides mental health and learning disability care for children, young people and adults across Sussex. The Trust is rated 'Good' overall and 'Outstanding' for Caring by the CQC.
SPFT encourages flexible working because we know that a positive work-life balance benefits both our staff and the care we provide. If it works for you and the service, we'll do our best to make it happen.
You will receive regular professional and clinical supervision from the CAMHS Psychology Professions Professional Lead and have opportunities to network with Psychological Professions colleagues across CAMHS, Perinatal and Early Intervention Services, as well as across the wider Trust.
We offer:
- Regular Professional and Clinical Supervision with a focus on wellbeing.
- Good links with other Consultant Psychological Professions and opportunities to work collaboratively across CAMHS and Adult Services within the Trust.
- A Specialist Division that prioritises Career Development through the Divisional Shadowing offer.
- A strong commitment to Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Human Rights.
- Opportunities to contribute to quality improvement, service innovation and service development.
- Access to extensive CPD opportunities through Psychological Professions Practice Networks and Leadership Programmes.

Specialist Educational Psychologist Role (Mental Health Support Teams)
Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust View all jobs
Posted 1 month(s) ago
Reference: 2345161
Job summary
This is a NHS role, within Mindworks led by Surrey and Borders NHS trust. It demonstrates the significant contribution Educational Psychologists (EP) can make (particularly with knowledge and skills regarding social, emotional and mental health, school systems, and consultation) in promoting child and young person emotional wellbeing and mental health.
We are a small group of EPs, linked to Mental Health Support Teams (MHST), and embedded within a School Based Need (SBN) service. We work jointly with a range of Children and Young People Services - Mental Health professionals (e.g. clinical psychologists, play therapists, CBT practitioners) in pursuit of a shared goal around CYP thriving. Our particular focus is around 'Whole School Approaches,' which involves work with school leaders on different areas of school functioning (as set out in Public Health England's Whole School Approach Framework, for example).
Our team's overall ethos is captured by a focus on outcomes (not outputs), approaches (not just activities), and the idea that if a young person is not thriving we should intervene in their environment first before looking within the individual. Our EPs get monthly supervision, and we meet half termly for a CPD focussed 'together day' (last day we looked at shared psychological frameworks and a neighbouring service facilitated a PATH for us; for our next day we're receiving training from a systemic practitioner on group dynamics relevant to school leadership teams).
Main duties of the job
Innovative work that is preventative, multi-systemic, and at the intersection of health and education.
As a specialist EP you will deliver on three types of work: (1) with schools, (2) within linked MHSTs, and (3) on whole Surrey programmes.
In your school work you will facilitate systemic change by workingwithschool leaders, and in partnership with a range of health and education colleagues. We use a consultation approach and the application of a range of psychological frameworks to understand the needs of, and affect change within, a system. You will build a shared understanding of whole school need, plan and at times deliver activities (inc. training, staff groups), and support the implementation of new practices. This is all in collaboration with health and education colleagues, in pursuit of a shared goal around improving the lived experience of everyone in a school community.
In addition to this work with schools, we provide support to Mental Health Support Teams and their varied mental health professionals. This includes consultation, joint work, training, and contribution to multi- professional meetings. This role comes with the opportunity to work with our MHST which supports Surrey Specialist Schools.
EPs working within Mindworks also collaborate with Local Authority partners on whole county training and implementation (e.g. Attachment Aware and Trauma Informed Schools), Senior Mental Health Lead supervision, and Team Around the School work.
About us
Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is the leading provider of mental health, learning disability, neurodevelopmental and drug and alcohol services in Surrey and North East Hampshire. Please note that we reserve the right to close posts as soon as sufficient applications are received.

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK for the duration of the role.
We look forward to receiving your application!
