Salary: £38,000 per annum pro rata
Hours: 22.5 hours per week over 3 days, must be available to work Monday and Thursday, third day negotiable, 09:30 to 17:30
Contract Type: Permanent
Location:Newcastle
Reports to: Head of Centre
We are recruiting a Senior Suicide Prevention Therapist to deliver our clinically proven, life-saving intervention at our James Place centre in Newcastle.
To apply, please use the online application system in the links provided to submit your CV detailing your experience, roles and responsibilities, and answer the screening questions.
APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED ON NHS JOBS WILL NOT BE MONITORED.
Main duties of the job
As a Senior Suicide Prevention Therapist, you will work closely with the Head of Centre to provide strong clinical leadership and oversight while also delivering direct therapeutic work with men experiencing suicidal crisis and their supporter(s). You will play a key role in supporting the clinical team to deliver our unique intervention and to co-produce effective, individualised safety plans to help men remain safe.
This role requires an experienced mental health professional or therapist with a strong background in suicide prevention, excellent risk assessment and formulation skills, and demonstrable experience of clinical supervision, line management, and leadership. Training, induction, and ongoing support will be provided by the Head of Centre in Newcastle and the wider James Place team.
About us
Suicide is the leading cause of death of men under 35 and three quarters of those who die by suicide are men. James Place exists to save the lives of men in suicidal crisis through delivering clinical services. We are a charity currently offering free, life-saving therapy to suicidal men at our centres in Liverpool, London, Newcastle and Birmingham.
James Place was set up by Clare Milford Haven and Nick Wentworth-Stanley after their twenty-one-year-old son, James, died by suicide ten days after a minor operation. James had no history of mental illness or depression and had sought urgent help for anxiety and suicidal thoughts but didn't find it.
James' Place was set up to make the experience of finding help as easy as possible. We offer men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis a brief, intensive, therapeutic intervention in a safe environment. Men who walk through the door at James Place will be in a space where they feel valued and respected. We provide a calm and peaceful environment both inside the centres and in our outside spaces, accessible to men who visit us as well as their friends and families. We have so far treated over 6,000 men who might otherwise have been unable to access the support they desperately need.

Job summary
Burlington Primary Care is looking to welcome a nursing associate to their team on a full or part-time basis.
This is a substantive clinical role, not a support post. You will carry your own caseload of patients within a clear supervision structure, contributing directly to chronic disease management, preventative health, and our immunisation and screening programmes. We are specifically looking for a nursing associate with competence, or a strong commitment to developing competence, in cervical screening (smear taking) and child immunisations. Both are core to what we do, and you will have the support and training to deliver them with confidence.
Patients are allocated through our GP-led recall and triage system. You will always have a registered nurse or clinician available for escalation, and your supervision will be structured and documented, not ad hoc.
Main duties of the job
- Run your own appointment clinics within your scope of practice, including chronic disease reviews for conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, COPD, and asthma.
- Deliver NHS Health Checks independently.
- Carry out cervical screening (smear taking) -- competency required or active training underway.
- Administer childhood and adult immunisations within supervised clinics and seasonal vaccination programmes, under a PGD or as directed by the supervising clinician.
- Perform venepuncture, ECGs, BP monitoring, urinalysis, and basic wound care.
- Support health promotion and lifestyle advice, including brief interventions and signposting.
- Contribute to recall and care planning for patients with long-term conditions.
- Maintain accurate, timely records on our clinical system (EMIS).
- Work collaboratively across the MDT, contributing to team meetings and quality improvement.
About us
Burlington Primary Care is a busy, forward-thinking practice in Ipswich, with a genuine commitment to patient-centred, preventative care. We run a growing multidisciplinary team that includes GPs, practice nurses, healthcare assistants, pharmacists, and paramedics. We believe the best care comes from teams that work well together, support each other, and keep learning. That is the environment you would be joining.
What we offer:
- NHS Pension Scheme.
- Generous annual leave entitlement.
- Structured clinical supervision with a named supervisor.
- Funded CPD and training, including smear competency and immunisation programmes where needed.
- A real MDT, including GPs, nurses, HCAs, pharmacists, paramedics, who all talk to each other!
- Flexible working arrangements where possible.
- Active involvement in service development and quality improvement.
