Job summary
We are seeking an experienced Clinical Pharmacist Independent Prescriber to join our progressive dispensing GP practice. This is an exciting opportunity to become a key member of a supportive multidisciplinary team, helping to improve patient outcomes through high-quality medicines optimisation, clinical prescribing and innovative service development.
The successful candidate will work alongside GPs, Advanced Practitioners, our PCN Clinical Pharmacist, Dispensary Manager and wider practice team to deliver safe, effective and patient-centred care. This role is ideal for an experienced primary care pharmacist who enjoys working autonomously, influencing clinical practice and contributing to the ongoing development of prescribing and dispensing services.
As a dispensing practice, this position offers a unique opportunity to combine direct patient care with a strategic role in medicines management, prescribing quality and the sustainability of our dispensary services.
Main duties of the job
You will undertake a varied clinical role including medication reviews, independent prescribing, medicines reconciliation, management of patients with long-term conditions and support for patients with complex polypharmacy. You will provide expert medicines advice to clinicians, support safe prescribing initiatives and contribute to quality improvement projects across the practice.
In addition to your clinical responsibilities, you will play an active role in optimising prescribing and dispensing performance, supporting cost-effective medicines use and helping the practice identify opportunities to improve prescribing quality, efficiency and financial sustainability. You will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including prescribing support organisations, to help develop and enhance medicines management services.
About us

Our multidisciplinary team includes GPs, Advanced Practitioners, Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Pharmacists, Dispensers and an experienced administrative and management team, all working together to achieve the best outcomes for our patients. As a dispensing practice, we recognise the vital role that pharmacy professionals play in both clinical care and the successful operation of the organisation.
We pride ourselves on being a supportive and welcoming practice where staff are encouraged to share ideas, develop services and contribute to the future direction of the organisation. We foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism and continuous learning, offering opportunities for personal and professional development within a stable and ambitious practice.
Working in Mid Cornwall provides the opportunity to enjoy a fantastic quality of life, combining a rewarding career with easy access to Cornwall's countryside, coastline and vibrant local communities. We are committed to creating an environment where staff feel valued, supported and empowered to make a real difference to the patients and communities we serve.

We are committed to supporting flexible working and offer a range of options, including flexible hours, part-time roles, job sharing, and hybrid working. Home working is well supported, with funded equipment provided to help you work comfortably and effectively.
At Sussex Gender Service, we are committed to building a diverse and representative workforce. We recognise that our current team is predominantly White British, and we are actively working to broaden this. We warmly welcome applications from people who are trans, non-binary or intersex, and from those of Global Majority backgrounds.
We place a strong emphasis on staff wellbeing and development. You will be supported through regular supervision, annual appraisals, reflective practice sessions, and access to coaching and mentoring. Staff are also encouraged to connect through our eight staff networks, with protected time to attend meetings and events.
