Job summary
We have opportunities for Registered Nurses to join our Inpatient night team on the bank register. You will be able to demonstrate clinical excellence and maintain consistently high standards of individualised care, compassion and bereavement support. Our aim is to make living with dying better for patients and their families and, as a registered nurse, you will be there for people in their time of need. If you are enthusiastic and have a passion for palliative care you may be the person we are looking for.
As a nurse on the bank register, you will work on an ad hoc basis, as and when we require hours to be filled on the Inpatient Unit. Flexibility will be essential, along with positivity and enthusiasm. You will have the communication and interpersonal skills that enable you to thrive in a friendly working environment.
At Pendleside Hospice, you will find a fantastic team spirit and a commitment to developing you and your skills so that you can choose a long-term career with us.
If you wish to know more about the role, we warmly welcome you to arrange an informal visit to the Hospice or speak to Rebecca Smith by emailing [email protected].
Main duties of the job
To deliver high quality nursing care to people with palliative care needs on the Inpatient unit, Day Services and Outpatient department and in the patients own home.
About us
Pendleside Hospice was founded as a charity in 1988 and is one of the principal providers of palliative and end of life care services to adults in Burnley and Pendle. Pendleside is widely known throughout the area of Burnley and Pendle and is held in deep affection by the local community. It is truly a privilege to work here.
All our care is free of charge to the patients and their families/carers but, of course, it isnt free to provide and most of it is funded through the generosity of the local community in which we serve. This financial year it is expected that Pendlesides running costs will exceed £6.5 million and less than 20% of those costs will come from government funding.

Job summary
As our new Tobacco Dependency Advisor, you'll work in our mental health services to support patients to reduce or stop smoking. As a developmental post, we will support and encourage your career progression within our Trust.
People with severe mental illness are more likely to experience poorer physical health than the general population. In Coventry and Warwickshire, we want to be a lead for reducing health inequalities and this an exciting post to support this ambition.
You'll be at the forefront of this work, providing 1:1 behavioural stop smoking support and advice for people who wish to quit and to support temporary abstinence during a hospital admission. This will be for all acute adult inpatients, using the support of interventions such as brief advice, Carbon Monoxide (CO) monitoring and Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT).
You'll also deliver tobacco harm reduction assessments, advice and support sessions, including advice on stop-smoking medications, working within recommended protocols and guidelines. This will involve face-to-face sessions in a variety of settings and venues across the Trust.
You'll promote the general health and wellbeing of people who use the service by signposting them to healthy lifestyle advice and support services.
This role offers a genuine opportunity to reach a wide number of people with severe mental illness and address one of the biggest determinants of physical health; smoking.

Job description
Job responsibilities
At Care in Mind our homes are always a hub of activity and energy where the young people can feel safe, and our staff enjoy coming to work. Our young people can still be quite active at night so you will have lots of interaction and will be required to support them their wellbeing, education, household tasks and general life skills. There will also be more challenging aspects to the role such as incident management and de-escalation of challenging behaviours. You will be required to update online care records, complete medication administration and provide effective handovers to the day staff. In addition, you will be responsible for the general upkeep and tidiness of the home ensuring the young people live in homely environment. Even though you are working nights, you will have the support of another night worker or a sleep in and have access to an on-call manager for additional support.
At our home in Stockport, you will be working with young people who have a variety of mental health diagnosis including personality disorder, those who have difficult relationships with food and those who use self-harm as a strategy to cope with their emotions. As such, you will be required to be patient and resilient as the support you will be providing to our young people will include supporting them to improve their relationship with food and managing incidents of self-harm. A number of our young people are preparing for moving on positively from the home into the community, therefore you will be supporting this transition through things such as: supporting them to self-administer their own medication, getting back into education, accessing public transport and appointments independently. Our young people are very adventurous and engage in a variety of activities including festivals, walking in the Peak District, visiting places like the cinema, Trafford Centre, indoor golf as well as having a stroll on a local park. There will never be a dull moment when you are on shift.
The home is a 4-bed service which is located between Stockport town centre and Marple giving the house the best of both worlds in the sense of being close to all amenities being near a town centre but also the opportunity to explore the countryside. The house is a large 4-bedroom detached property which is well maintained and homely, making it a lovely environment to work in. The garden is another area of activity and includes a trampoline, football nets, dining area as well as flower beds and vegetable patch.
Previous care experience is not essentialand full training will be provided. You will receive ongoing support and mentoring from our friendly residential and clinical team which includes Reflective Practice, 1:1 supervisions and Group Staff support.
The job is highly rewarding and a great start to developing your career working with young people or enhancing your previous experience of mental health with the opportunity for excellent career development.
